5 PRO TIPS FOR CHOOSING YOUR WEDDING MAKEUP

So, you finally said yes to dress and you’re moving onto other boards on your Pinterest account? Now you’re looking at all things accessories, hair and makeup (yeah, girl, we all hoard those pins on secret boards we’ve been building since waaaaay before the question was popped, it’s fine.) But you’re starting to realise that this makeup thing is actually a big deal, and you’re feeling totally clueless?

I’ve got you.

V.V.TIP #1 — DECIDE ON AN OVERALL DIRECTION

First thing’s first, when it comes to your make-up, the first decision to make is, what overall look do you want for your big day? Do you like that ultra natural, “I woke up like this” look, or do you like that full-glamour “Kim Kardashian-West contouring” look?kim kardashion west contouring

You want to be the prettiest girl at the ball (and you should be) but you also want to recognize yourself looking back at your wedding pictures. Most importantly, you want to feel comfortable throughout the day. All eyes on you, sister!

If you follow me on Insta, you will have realised that my personal style is a full glam kind of gal, so when it came to my wedding this summer, I already knew natural was not for me. That said, I have seen it achieved beautifully by friends of mine who have walked down the aisle rocking the au natural glow.

If you have already started searching bridal make-up boards on Pinterest than you might have noticed the natural bridal look is a bit of a formula— nude to pinkish eyeshadow, a nude lip, and full eyebrows.

V.V.TIP #2 — DO YOUR HOMEWORK

I know you’ve been waiting a long time to call yourself a bride but trust me, girl, you will discover a world of options once you broaden your search. Search for that brown, smoky eye you always liked, and build a soft palette with that look as your focal point. Variety is the key to finding a style that suits you.

V.V.TIP #3 — WORK WITH WHAT YOUR MAMA GAVE YOU

Or if you really don’t know your smoky eyes from your curling wand, then search makeup looks based on your own eye colour.

It may sound a bit weird but, trust me, this will really help you figure out what makes your eyes pop. Try searches like “hazel eyes make-up” or “blue eyes make-up” and I guarantee you will find something that just clicks for you. Try a little experimentation at home with what you see online.

Save the looks that you think might work on your Pinterest boards, and when you think you have a direc

tion that feels right, meet up with your make-up artist and really take the time to go through all your pictures. Point out what you like and what you dislike on every picture so they really get the whole vibe you’re going with.

V.V.TIP #4 — GIVE YOURSELF TIME

The best advice I can give you is, book your makeup trial early. I’m not kidding, I mean E.A.R.L.Y!!!  This will give you the chance to book another session if you didn’t like it the first time, so you feel SECURE!

V.V.TIP #5 — GET OUT THAT PHONE & SELFIE

You liked it, but didn’t see anything you thought was worth taking 27 selfies? Have your make-up artist take pictures of your final look from different angles and send it to you. That way you can really assess what you think is working and what needs to be done differently. Then, bite the bullet, spend the extra cash and book a second trial just to be sure.
